Plating Thickness
Plating thickness is performed by cross-sectioning a part and metallurgically preparing the sectioned surface. Most plating is quite thin, so edge protection is a must. The sample is viewed through a metallograph and plating thickness is measured with a calibrated Vernier. We can measure thickness down to .0005".
Companies that use our services are plating shops, electronic component companies, manufactures seeking quality control, and other testing labs. Metals protected by zinc in marine applications where the zinc is applied by hot dipping are also part of our evaluation process.
